EDI dolls

Doll houses could be rather dull if not anyone lived in them so therefore I am today going to show you some of my oldest dolls. They are residing in my doll house from the 40s.

Most of them are German EDI dolls. EDI stands for Erich Dittman who manufactured dolls 1948 to 1960. The dolls were made of celluloid or tortulon (a kind of plastic) and dressed into many nationalities. Also characters from fairy tales were made.

On one of my dolls I have found an EDI marking in the neck of the doll. Some of the dolls have their clothes glued to their body so it is impossible to check for any markings.

This Scandinavian couple or perhaps Swedish, was sold in Sweden at least in the mid 50s. I have some more dolls similar to this couple but only one complete couple, as far as i know. The other ones missing some parts of their clothing

Here are guests from Germany I think. They arrived just a couple of days ago and are my latest purchase to my doll house world.

This old doll who sits in the corner I am not sure of what brand it is. It is marked Germany so it could be an EDI. Anyone who knows anything of this doll?

New little things in Lill-Glottra

Yesterday I got by the post some little things for my dollhouses. They were all made of metal. Some of it I put in the house from 1940s, Lill-Glottra and I think it became rather good.

In the kitchen I placed some pans, a coffee pot and a mincing machine. The pot and the mincing machine were sold by BRIO at least in the beginning of the 1950s.

The fire place in the living room has got a clock which also was sold by BRIO in the beginning of 1950s. The candle stick was moved to the piano.

On the last picture you can see a a vacuum cleaner in a 1940s model. I don't know if it was manufactured then, but I am certain that it is rather old anyway. Isn´t it cute.

I'm back with news from Lill Glottra

I know that I have neglected my blog for a while but I will repair it today with writing about my doll house "Lill Glottra” from the 1940s.

The house is homemade by a carpenter who made it as a Christmas present for his 4 years old daughter in the mid-1940s. The wall papers and floors are still today in original shape, which I found very nice. Some damages over the years have happened but it is not so severe. The house was named "Lill Glottra" which means little Glottra, after the main house where the family lived. The doll house had homemade furniture too in the beginning but unfortunately for me they are not a part of the doll house today. So I have decorated it with furniture from the 1940s and at least in a 1940s style.

We start the tour in the house in the bedroom. News in this room is the little things like the cushions, the roof lamp, the carpet, the plant, a photo and the little angel on the wall. Most of these things are probably not made in the 1940s but I think it fits in very well. Perhaps the carpet is in age in line with the house. About the furniture I am sure of the date for the sewing machine, the 1940s, because my mother got it as a child at that time.

Then we go to the bathroom which had got a mirror over the sink and a lamp in the ceiling.

Next to the bathroom the dining room is situated. Here two guests are having some coffee. This room had since last visit got a carpet, a lamp, the stuff on the table and a picture on the wall. The dolls are old but I am not sure how old. The chairs and the sideboard in the back are also from my mother’s childhood in the 1940s. I bought the table but it is in the same style and probably from the same time period.

Now we are in the kitchen which now has a refrigerator, a washing machine, a lamp in the ceiling and some other little stuff. The baby is still sleeping in the pram which is also from my mother’s childhood in the 1940s and manufactured by Brio.

Finally, we end the house tour in the living room. This room is complemented with for example two new lamps, some dolls, a fire place and some small stuff. The dolls are old but I am not sure how old. The brown wooden chairs, table and piano are also from my mother’s childhood in the 1940s.

A cottage from 1940s

Long time no see. I am so sorry for neglecting this blog for a while, but I have had too much too do at my work. But today I am going to present for you a new house in my collection.

The house is homemade by a carpenter who made it as a Christmas present for his 4 years old daughter in the mid-1940s. The wall papers, floors and paintings are all in original shape, which I found to be very nice. Some damages over the years have happened but it is not so severe. The house was named "Lill Glottra" which means little Glottra, after the main house where the family lived. The house had homemade furniture too in the beginning but unfortunately for me they are not a part of the house any more. So I have decorated it with furniture from the 1940s.

This is the living room with a piano and a couch. My mother had the furniture’s which is in brown wood when she was a child in the 1940s.

The kitchen is furnished with American furniture of plastic. The kitchen units are from Renwal, made in USA, I Think from around 1940s. The same goes for the table and chairs, while the red baby carriage is made by BRIO and was my mothers in her childhood in the 1940s. The left inner wall have lost the original wallpaper and had been brown as the other two walls.

At last I will show you the bedroom where I think the wall papers are so lovley. It is furnished with beds which have German origin and a rocking-chair with an unknown history. The sewing machine is in plastic and has no label to tell us where it is from, but it been also my mothers. I was not allowed to play with the sewing machine when I was a child and that I now think was lucky because I was rather hard on my toys and not so much have survived.
